My FlowerBomb! Tree – Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas

This year I was delighted to take part in Kirstie Allsopp’s Christmas tree decorating competition for her annual Christmas show Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas.

Having been inspired by flowers all year whilst writing my gorgeous book FlowerBomb! (Out Feb 2018, click here for details), I thought the obvious choice was to create a floral masterpiece.

The production company Rase The Roof, didn’t go small and asked all the contestants to decorate a huge 7ft tree! Eeekkk!! So I spent days creating an array of winter flowers for my tree, including Winter Roses, Poinsettia, Anemones, Hellebores, Holly and Ivy. With flower fairies and Heirloom Flower Girl Angels in the mix. All whilst I was in the first trimester of pregnancy and feeling very iffy!

I caught the train down to Devon the day before and woke up early on the shoot day. We were driven to a beautiful house in a remote location. There I met the other contestants: Cathy Elliot @cathyeliot, Hayley Breen @geoattic, Michelle @eatpraypedal all with beautiful and diverse tree designs.

On camera, I demonstrated to Kirstie how to make the felt Poinsettia Once our trees were complete, Rhoini Whai judged the competition.

Awarding Cathy Eliot’s beautiful mini embroidery decorations the winner! I was sad not to win, but secretly smiled when Kings Cross Station presented the most photographed tree of the year… a floral masterpiece!
