How to make a Christmas Felt Poinsettia

This year, I was lucky enough to take part in the Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas show for Channel 4. On air I made this very festive of flowers, so in case you missed it, here’s how to!

You can use them in so many different ways, here I have decorated a faux fur garland, but you could use them on top of picture frames, to decorate a wreath or even a gift.

YOU WILL NEED per flower

1 x A4 sheets Red Felt

1 x A4 sheets Dark Green Felt

1 x A4 sheet Light Green Felt ( makes 3 stamen)

Glue gun

Garden wire/cutters

Fabric Scissors

To make the stamen of the flowers, cut the garden wire to approximately 20 cms long. Cut the sheet of light green felt in thirds widthways, then run a line of hot glue close to the edge of one of the open lengths and fold in half, securing the two sides together. Along the folded length, snip lines approximately 3mms apart and 1.5cm away from the glued length.

Run a line of glue along the outer ( un snipped) length of the felt and place the wire at one end. Simply roll this up to make the stamen.

To make the red petals, cut around 6 petal shapes out from the red felt. Add a blob of glue at the base of the petals to shape them and stick them equidistant around the stamen.

Next add the green petals, repeat previous process.

And voila, your Poinsettia flower is complete!
