Luxury Drinks Glass Soy Candles
These soy wax candles are so pretty and oh so simple to make. A great way to use some of those pretty glasses you haven't used much, because of course you can use them again after the candle has melted. Or why not as I have done make a batch and buy some cheap glasses from to give as a gifts. NB. I bought all candle making ingredients from Hobbycraft
YOU WILL NEED
Selection of drinks glasses, clean and dry
Microwaveable Soy Wax chips
Candle wicks, depending on glass height
Lollipop sticks, skewers or pencils
Dried flower petals
2-4 microwaveable jugs or bowls
Covered work surface
To begin, place all the glasses on the tray, put it somewhere that doesn’t have to be moved for a little while.
Cover your work surface with a cloth or newspaper.
To melt the wax, place the chips into one of the microwaveable jugs, ideally you will have a vestal for each section of the candles (4) but 2 will do. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to melt the wax in the microwave.
Use the handle of the wooden spoon to systematically stir the wax as you are melting it.
Next attach the wicks to the base of the glasses, dip the metal circle of the wick into the melted wax and stick centrally to the bottom of the glass. Leave for a few seconds for wax to cool and wick to attach, then wrap the top of the wick around the lollipop stick and place centrally over the glass.
The first layers of these wax candles are a solid colour. To create the colour mix one of the candle dyes with the melted wax. Stir with the metal fork until the entire colour has dissolved. If the dye does not seem to be dissolving, put the wax in the microwave again for 30 seconds and stir. If you are unsure of the colour, you can test by pouring a small amount onto a white plate and leaving to harden.
Add a few drops of the essential oil or candle scent.
Pour your coloured wax into the glasses, from about half full. You will need a fresh spotlessly clean jug for each colour.
Allow the coloured wax to cool and harden fully.
To make the layer mixed with dried flower petals, repeat the process by melting the wax. But this time stir in the dried flower petals and scent.
Top up the glasses with this layer and allow wax to cool fully.
Remove lollipop sticks and trim down wicks to around 1cm long.
Lay back and enjoy the scent.
